Viewing a quilt exhibit.

Fine Art of Fiber

The Fine Art of Fiber show is going on hiatus in November 2020 out of concern for the safety of its guild members and their guests. Look for us to return to the Chicago Botanic Garden November 5-7, 2021 (opening night Thursday, November 4, 2021).

It’s definitely a great opportunity for quilters to see and be seen. IQI has been exhibiting quilts at the Chicago Botanic Garden for over 30 years, along with the North Suburban Needlearts Guild and Weavers Guild of the North Shore. Attendance at the Fine Art of Fiber recently broke the 10,000 mark.

Can you think of a more perfect location to showcase your work? IQI members may exhibit one piece a year as part of their membership benefits. Addition pieces may be submitted for consideration by the FAOF Committee; there is a nonrefundable $5.00 fee per item submitted, and exhibitors are required to volunteer during the show.

The Fine Art of Fiber exhibit includes a boutique for members to sell their work, a Silent Auction of pieces donated by members to benefit their guilds, a fashion show of wearable art, and the guild Raffle Quilt is on display with tickets on sale. The winner of this beautiful raffle quilt is drawn late Sunday afternoon before the conclusion of the show. (Winner need not be present.) Guild members staff an education table to introduce visitors to the quilting arts and the benefits of guild membership.

Entry to the show is free, and IQI members volunteering at the show receive a parking pass good for the weekend. Visitors are encouraged to vote for the Viewers’ Choice Award: 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons are awarded Sunday afternoon.

Visit the FAOF’s website at fineartoffiber.org/forms.htm to download current information and submission forms for the exhibit and boutique. Submission deadline for the exhibit and the boutique is early September; deadline for the Great Wear fashion show is early October.

2019 FAOF Challenge: “Garden Pearls”
In honor of the 30th “Pearl” Anniversary of the combined Guilds’ FAOF Show, the FAOF Steering Committee invites members of the three participating Guilds to submit a piece of fiber art on the theme of “Garden Pearls.”
The finished piece should measure 6″x6″ and be suitable for hanging on a wall (do not frame). All forms of fiber art are welcome and will be hung together as a group at the show. Members should submit a 4″x6″ photo with a FAOF entry form for their piece by September 12, 2019, writing “PEARL CHALLENGE” at the top of the entry form. One entry per member.
